Здравствуйте! Это продолжение темы Complex Subject и сегодня мы разберем более редкий случай использования данной конструкции с глаголами seem, appear, prove, turn out, happen, chance. Почему эти шесть глаголов стоят особняком? Complex Subject с глаголами Seem, Appear, Turn Out, Happen

Итак, получается, что перевод предложений не сильно отличается, ведь по смыслу предложения «Говорят, что у нее есть молодой человек» и «Кажется, что у нее есть молодой человек» практически одинаковы. Поэтому верным является ответ 2.

ПРИМЕРЫ

1. The work seems to be hard. — Кажется, работа трудная.
2. These means appear to be effective. — Эти средства, по видимому, эффективные.
3. The master turned out to be inventive. — Мастер, оказался, изобретательным.
4. He didn’t prove to be an experienced engineer. — Он, оказался, не очень опытным инженером.
5. They happened to meet once and forever. — Случилось так, что они встретились раз и навсегда.
6. I chanced to be at home. — Я случайно оказался (был) дома (в тот момент).

Упражнение 1.  Переведите с английского на русский. 

1. 1. The boat seems to be moving too slowly.
   2. One day a Wolf happened to meet a Sheep.
   3. Adele appears to be a wonderful singer.
   4. He turned out to be a tall bold-headed man.
   5. Tom appeared to have forgotten of his promise.
   6. Money doen’t happen to interest me.
   7. Their house turned out to be in a noisy street in the center of the city.
   8. She appeared to be an ideal housewife.
   9. You can easily get in through the window if the door happens to be locked.
   10. I happened to meet an old friend at the cinema.

Упражнение 2. Перефразируйте, используя конструкцию Complex Subject (из сборника упражнений Ю. Голицынского).

ОБРАЗЕЦ. It seemed they knew the subject well. — They seemed to know the subject well.

1. It seems they know all about it.
2. It seems they have heard all about it.
3. It seemed that the discussion was coming to an end.
4. It seemed that you didn’t aprove of the idea.
5. It appeared that he was losing patience.
6. It happened that I was present at the meeting.
7. It so happened that I overheard their conversation.
8. It turned out that my prediction was correct.
9. It turned out the the language of the story was rather easy.
10. It seems that Granny is making a cake for supper.

Упражнение 3. Составьте предложения по образцу. 

ОБРАЗЕЦ 1 . He doesn’t usually play chess. — Well, he seems to be playing chess now.

He doesn’t usually …
1.do the shopping, 2. wait for his wife, 3. bring his wife flowers, 4. help his wife, 5. quarrel with his neighbours, 6. walking the dog

ОБРАЗЕЦ 2 . Did he live here? (most of his life). — Yes, he seems to have lived here most of his life.

1.Did he hunt? (when he was a young man). 2. Did he write stories? (most of his life) 3. Did he live abroad? (in childhood) 4. Did he travel a lot? (since childhood).

Упражнение 4. Перефразируйте, используя конструкцию Complex Subject (из сборника упражнений Т. Дроздовой) и переведите их с английского. 

ОБРАЗЕЦ. It seemed they knew the subject well. — They seemed to know the subject well.

1.It happened that they met that very day. 2. It proved that there were broken cups in the cupboard. 3. It seems that their talk has made a deep impression on him. 4. It proved that he was an excellent driver. 5. It appears that the house was built in the 17th centure. 6. It happened that there was a doctor there at that time. 7. It appears that there are different opinions on the subject. 8. It proves that their characters have much in common.
